It’s Vietnam’s best ever performance in the Miss Universe pageant.
In the Question and Answer portion, the question for H’Hen Nie was “The #MeToo movement has sparked a global conversation. In response, some have said that the world has become too politically correct. Do you think the #MeToo movement has gone too far?"
"I don't think that it has gone too far. Protecting women and women's rights is the right thing to do. Women need protection and rights," she answered.
H’Hen Nie, a 25-year-old model from the Ede ethnic minority group in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, was crowned Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 in January.
Meanwhile, Catriona Gray from the Philippines was crowned Miss Universe 2018. Contestants from South Africa and Venezuela were the pageant’s first and second runners-up, respectively.
The grand finale of the 67th edition of the Miss Universe contest featured 94 participants from across the world, breaking the 2017’s record of 92.
Launched in 1952, Miss Universe is among the world’s biggest annual beauty contests, along with Miss World, Miss International and Miss Earth.
