PM Chinh made the remarks during a special high-level commemorative meeting marking 50 years of ASEAN-Australia relations.
During the event, top Vietnamese government officials met with leaders of SK Group, one of South Korea's largest diversified conglomerates, on March 8 to discuss new technology projects for green hydrogen production and CO2 storage.
According to SK's vice president of its LNG Upstream Unit, Ilyung Kim, cross-border projects with similar models are being implemented in markets such as South Korea, Australia, and Timor-Leste.
"These projects utilise natural gas sources to produce green hydrogen, with a key focus on using depleted gas fields as permanent CO2 storage sites during the production process," he said. "Projects operating in those markets could generate clean energy by capturing up to 98 per cent of emitted gases."
Enticed by the project, PM Chinh proposed that SK Group collaborate with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and agencies to advance project preparations. He also referred to state-run Vietnam's oil and gas group as a suitable partner in terms of its expertise and experience.
Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Planning and Investment, also met with the Vietnam Innovation Network in Australia. He suggested that partners research and propose cooperative projects in green hydrogen that are suitable for Vietnam.
"Attention should be drawn to enhancing technological capabilities, developing human resources for green hydrogen, and facilitating investment and support for Vietnamese enterprises to participate in Australia's and regional hydrogen markets," said Dung.
Offshore wind power, hydrogen, and gas power awaiting policies The expeditious execution of gas power, offshore wind power, and hydrogen projects is contingent upon the competent authorities formulating policies pertaining to these domains. |
Support policies needed to develop green hydrogen The Government should implement support policies to ensure the development and competitiveness of clean hydrogen sources in the country. |
Honeywell teams up with The Green Solutions Group Corporation for Vietnam's first green hydrogen plant On February 21, US industrial giant Honeywell announced that it has signed a MoU with The Green Solutions Group Corporation (TGS) for the Tra Vinh Green Hydrogen Project, Vietnam's first green hydrogen plant in the Mekong Delta. |
