Vietnam approves Pfizer/BIONTECH COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use

Vietnam’s Ministry of Health (MoH) on June 12 signed Decision No.2908/QD-BYT, officially approving Comirnaty – the Covid-19 vaccine of Pfizer/BioNTech for emergency use.

This makes Comirnaty the fourth COVID-19 vaccine to be approved.

The MoH assigned the Agency of Science, Technology and Training to select and guide qualified units to assess vaccine safety and efficacy based on advice from the Advisory Council on Use of Medical Bio-vaccines.

The Agency of Preventive Medicine is responsible for vaccination using Comirnaty. The MoH also assigned the National Institute of Vaccine and Medical Biology to verify and grant the factory certificate for Comirnaty before use.

In addition to working with the Agency of Science, Technology and Training, the Agency of Preventive Medicine, and the National Institute of Vaccine and Medical Biology, Pfizer Vietnam should work with the ministry on risk management of the vaccine during circulation in Vietnam. The use of Comirnaty must be in line with the MoH’s instructions.
