At the end of September 2020, Korea-Tra Vinh Wind Farm has taken shape with 12 turbine foundations and a 4.2km access bridge. Starting construction from March 2020, the plant has completed the design and construction of the offshore civil works within just seven months this year to meet the feed-in-tariff for renewable wind energy ending by October 31, 2021.

With the total investment capital of over VND2.4 trillion ($104.35 million), Korea-Tra Vinh Wind Farm covers 1,200 hectares sea surface and land area. It has 12 turbines with a capacity of 48MW, producing 155 million kW of electricity annually. Khang Duc Investment & Construction JSC (Khang Duc), which won the contract for the delivery of the civil balance of plant (CBOP), has completed the project with two months ahead of schedule.

Nguyen Van Tan, general director of Khang Duc, said that, “Many near-shore wind farm projects are behind schedule. This is mainly due to less experienced contractors and a lack of marine construction equipment.”

He added that, “Korea-Tra Vinh Wind Farm was completed two months ahead of the original schedule due to many reasons. Firstly, the leaders and staff of Khang Duc have extensive experience in developing maritime construction projects and working with international partners. Secondly, the company also has a deep understanding of marine construction equipment to ensure the smooth development of the project."

"Thirdly, as an experienced civil engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, Khang Duc manages all phases of the project from design to construction so we can maintain consistent quality and keep track of the project," he concluded.

Khang Duc is investing in new construction equipment with a strategy to become a leading EPC contractor for marine projects. The company is preparing to launch three piling vessels in December 2020. These vessels are designed to drive the longest piles as the current market demand in Vietnam and to increase construction productivity by three times compared to normal local pile driving equipment.

With the above-mentioned advantages in both strong manpower and equipment, Khang Duc plans to construct 2-3 near-shore wind farm projects in 2021. The company is also confident in completing the construction of 18-24 turbine foundations within seven months of the offshore calm season.

There are few contractors in the Vietnamese market that can reach this capability.
