The mural project in Canh Duong village was accomplished with sponsorship from AkzoNobel |
Last years, 30 murals in an impressive 3D style on a variety of themes transformed this sleepy 400-year old village into a tourist destination. From homes to the end of the coastal road, these murals depict local history, culture, and the beauty of Canh Duong coastal village. The colourful alleyways entice travellers to wander deeper into a strange and beautiful new world.
During May, the village was covered in murals as painters finished the last walls and roads with AkzoNobel’s Dulux Weathershield. “We have accompanied painters in this project since the beginning of last year. Up to now, the village has changed a lot, not only in appearance but also in the atmosphere. People’s lives have been turned around as pictures draw in tourists. Our enthusiasm to bring a better living space to local people and continue to protect their homes against severe coastal weather conditions has brought stellar results,” said Pamela Phua, general director of AkzoNobel Vietnam.
Besides 3D paintings on walls, old baskets, tires, and other thrown-away things were recycled as tables, chairs or decorative items for an eye-catching beach. “It is fortunate that we received help from local people to clear shrubs, clean up the sea, and gather materials. Our efforts paid off. Now that there is a cleaner, more picturesque beach and colourful walls and roads, business opportunities have been opened up for the locals, raising living standards,” said a representative from the project team.
Canh Duong’s murals have not only received overwhelmingly positive responses, but also fully reflect AkzoNobel’s vision in improving living spaces and community development all around the world. This sponsorship was implemented under AkzoNobel Cares, including Let’s Colour, Education Fund, Community Day, and others projects promoting sustainability.
Besides the project in Canh Duong, AkzoNobel also sponsored other projects to recoat villages, such as theh ones on Be Island (Quang Ngai) and the Linh Truong sea embankment (Thanh Hoa).
