Thai billionaire Peter Palanugool has expressed an interest in developing a project to process gold from electronic waste in the central province of Binh Dinh.

The information was shared at a meeting between Binh Dinh leaders and Peter Palanugool, chairman of Thailand's Bangkok Assay Office Group, on March 30.

At the meeting, Palanugool said he hoped to gain more insights to accelerate the investment of the e-waste treatment plant, with an expected investment of VND2.4 trillion ($96.3 million). The plant is one of ten projects the Thai billionaire has in the pipeline with the province.

They include a logistics service centre, research and training, the production of technology, software, and AI, a fast-charging battery production factory, a cosmetic production factory, and a container production factory.

Other projects are in agriculture, healthcare, and education; applying AI in healthcare; turning seawater into fresh water; and building Phu My general and specialised port.

Bangkok Assay Office Group was established in 1985 with the prime intention of assisting Thai jewellery exporters. Over the course of two decades, the company has earned the trust of its customers to ensure the quality of their precious metal content. Today, Bangkok Assay Office Group is one of Thailand's largest corporations, investing in multiple areas.

Ho Quoc Dung, Secretary of Binh Dinh Party Committee, called for Palanugool to also introduce other Thai businesses and friends to Quy Nhon city to explore investment opportunities, especially in tourism and resorts.

Dung said that the province has prepared a land clearance fund for Thai investments in manufacturing, hotels, services, seaports, agriculture, healthcare, education, and human resources. Thailand is also one of three countries that Binh Dinh is aiming to launch direct flights with.
