Japanese giant Panasonic has announced the Panasonic Green Impact commitment in 2022, and is working to create specific impacts with the goal of reducing 300 million tonnes of CO2 emissions across the value chain by 2050.
The group has developed a medium- and long-term strategy to realise the commitment through creating impacts on its own operations, while supporting customers, partners, and inspiring the community to take action.

REDUCING EMISSIONS FROM FACTORIES AND PRODUCTS
Panasonic introduced its first zero-CO2 factory in 2019. Since then, the Japanese firm has worked to increase the number of factories achieving net-zero CO2 emissions to 31 factories last year, and it is expected to rise to 44 factories in the fiscal year 2024, estimated to reduce 680,000 tonnes of emissions.
Priority has been put on technology solutions that optimise energy efficiency and proactive use and procurement of renewable energy. Utilising its strength of technology, Panasonic has provided products with lower emissions during use, while bringing customers a convenient, healthy, and environmentally friendly lifestyle every day.
The group estimates that it will reduce more than 16 million tonnes of carbon by fiscal year 2025 from customer use of its products. Exclusive technologies that are continuously developed, such as Inverter and EcoNavi, help to save up to 30 per cent of energy consumption.
In Vietnam, the company’s refrigerator and washing machine have been certified by the Ministry of Industry and Trade as the most-energy efficient products for many consecutive years.
Moreover, across 56 business sectors globally, the group estimates that it has reduced more than 36 million tonnes of emissions in fiscal year 2024 with remarkable contributions from lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, heat pumps for heating and hot water systems, and building energy management solutions.
Developing new sustainable technology is also a key approach. Panasonic has developed the prototype of integrated perovskite solar cells, which are designed to directly form the photovoltaic layer on the glass substrate, enabling the creation of “power-generating glass” building materials that can be used in various architectural structures.
INSPIRING TO CREATE GREEN IMPACT
Panasonic has consistently committed to providing convenient and comprehensive wellness solutions for customers, while addressing environmental issues, according to shared Marukawa Yoichi Marukawa, general director of Panasonic Vietnam.
“However, we do believe we need active participation of many stakeholders to create a significant impact. That is why we would like to inspire the community to work together to create a positive impact on the environment,” Marukawa added.
Panasonic aims to reach one million trees planted across Vietnam by the end of fiscal year 2024. This milestone is result of many years efforts to implement tree planting programmes aimed at creating a green environment, while also contributing to the government’s net-zero goal. This was carried out through the “Live Wellness, Contribute Green” programme for customers and partners; and the annual “EcoRelay: Panasonic for a Green Vietnam” initiative with the active participation of thousands of employees.
Furthermore, through the campaign “Live Green and Wellness with Gen G”, Panasonic has inspired millions of young Vietnamese to practice a green, healthy, and sustainable lifestyle, while dozens of youth-proposed environmental initiatives have also been supported.
In addition, environmental classes combined with STEM content are implemented in the “Panasonic for Sustainable Schools” programme, helping to raise awareness about environmental protection for thousands of Vietnamese students.
Panasonic’s persistent efforts have been recognised not only by government and reputable organisations, but also by the companion of the community, customers, and partners in creating positive impacts on the environment. This is how the corporation strives to fulfill its mission of enriching people’s lives and contributing to the development of society.
