What is your opinion of the potential of the luxury sea tourism concept in Vietnam?

The concept of luxury sea tourism is very promising for Vietnam, particularly in a destination such as Phu Quoc where Novotel Phu Quoc Resort is located.

Phu Quoc tourist arrivals saw a boom in 2017, with total visitor arrivals reaching 2.8 million. Given that it’s a relatively new tourism destination, I expect that tourism arrivals will increase further in the coming years. More luxury hotels are opening each year and I’m excited to be part of its continuous growth in the country.

How do you evaluate the situation of sea and luxury hospitality in Vietnam at present regarding its ability to compete with other countries in Asia?

Luxury sea hospitality in already established in Vietnam. Destinations such as Halong bay and Danang already have a strong image - Halong bay as a leisure spot and Danang catering to leisure tourism and offering a touch of city lifestyle living as well. Phu Quoc island is also starting to make its mark as a top tourist destination in Southeast Asia, with the island becoming increasingly accessible to visitors from Europe, Russia and other neighboring countries within Asia. I’m positive that Vietnam will continue to become increasingly competitive with other Asian countries.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Vietnam’s sea hospitality sector?

As a whole, Vietnam has a lot more leisure destinations to offer and more sea adventures to discover. For example, Phu Quoc is a fresh island with great potential to bring in more international tourists.

Since the island is a relatively new tourist destination, there is room to improve fire, life and safety facilities more transport infrastructure and safety in the island. To mention, more lights on the road, more visibility of the security authorities and more hospitals can be highly considered.

With a bloom of international and local hoteliers in Phu Quoc island at present, what are the opportunities for Novotel Phu Quoc Resort and what makes the hotel stand out from the rest?

Novotel Phu Quoc Resort is the first Accor Hotels resort hotel on the island and this remains to be our advantage. We have established ourselves as the preferred hotel catering to families and this is what makes us unique and special.

For Novotel capturing the MICE market is also potential not only for Novotel but for the entire island. We have a ballroom able to accommodate up to 400 guests and small meeting rooms perfect to international MICE markets.

From over two decades experience working with 4 and 5 star international hotel chains in the Philippines and Myanmar, which priorities have you applied to promote Novotel Phu Quoc and to attract more international tourists to the pearl island?

I think the most important contribution I can share with my Novotel Phu Quoc Resort team is to ensure the best Asian Hospitality is in place. When guests stay in our resort, they should feel welcome and feel the warmth of Asian hospitality. This is the top priority and of course if this is in place, sales & revenue will flow naturally, and guests will keep coming back to experience our resort again.

Has your resort offered any special activities or practical action to promote Vietnam’s sea tourism aboard?

Yes, Novotel Phu Quoc Resort offers packages to for families with special activities organised on the island. This also package caters to local and international markets. For corporate industries, we also have packages available which can cater to their needs, including MICE.
