Ninh Binh provincial Department of Industry and Trade has held a meeting to review the programme on increasing traditional alcoholic drink management after five months of implementation.

The programme is carried out by the Vietnam Beer Alcohol Beverage Association (VBA), Vietnam Alliance for Responsible Drinking (VARD), and Ninh Binh Department of Industry and Trade.

During the event, participants discussed proposals to be sent to state agencies to better manage the production and trading of traditional alcoholic drinks.

The programme includes many activities such as conferences, training courses, and surveys in eight districts and Ninh Binh city, and throughout its implementation so far, has raised people’s awareness among traditional alcoholic drink producers about food safety and social responsibility.

The department encouraged nearly 4,000 household producers of traditional alcoholic drinks to submit self-declaration, up from 2,800 in the past. It also plans to guide 500 big producers of traditional alcoholic drinks and add them to the list of state management.

The programme also found that there is a gap in people’s awareness about legal enforcement and the prevention of the harmful effects of alcohol abuse.

These are the initial results helping local state management agencies, increasing awareness of producers about the harmful effects of alcohol of unclear origins for consumers.

In fact, there are still many difficulties in the management of traditional alcoholic drinks. The participants discussed several measures to be implemented in the upcoming time. They include intensifying propaganda and the dissemination of regulations and promoting responsible drinking to prevent the harmful effects of alcohol abuse among producers and consumers, and encouraging and guiding them to register for a license of traditional alcoholic drink production.

Proposals to authorised agencies about policy shortcomings and organising seminars to exchange experience among cities and provinces will also be included in the programme.
