The EcoSport, Ranger and Transit each continued sales leadership of their respective segments for the month and year-to-date. This has helped drive Ford’s 2016 sales up 53 per cent to 11,247 units and Ford remains one of the fastest growing automotive brands in Vietnam this year.
“Led by strong demand for Ranger, EcoSport and Transit, plus a nice uptick in sales of Fiesta and Focus for the month, Vietnamese customers are showing how much they value the fuel economy, capability and technology of our global Ford vehicles,” said Pham Van Dung, managing director of Ford Vietnam.
Sales of the segment-defining Ranger in May increased 31 per cent year-over-year to 1,074 units. The Ranger – Vietnam’s best-selling pickup truck since 2014 – is retaining its top position this year with year-to-date sales that have soared 97 per cent to 5,439 units.
The popular EcoSport remained Vietnam’s best-selling compact SUV this year by delivering May retail sales that increased 49 per cent year-over-year to 431 units. Year-to-date sales have increased 32 per cent to 1,912 units, as individual customers continue to appreciate the EcoSport’s unique combination of small-car practically and the agility of an SUV.
The popular Transit retained its leadership of Vietnam’s commercial van segment in May with retail sales rising 42 per cent to 641 units. Its year-to-date sales have increased 54 per cent to 3,028 units, as the Transit continues to delight business owners and operators with its durability, versatility, and value proposition.
The sporty Fiesta, equipped with the 1.0L EcoBoost engine, delivered retail sales that jumped 31 per cent to 68 units in May, pushing its year-to-date total up four per cent to 296 units.
Ford’s 1.0L EcoBoost engine was recently named the 2016 International Engine of the Year in the ‘Under 1.0L’ category for the fifth consecutive year. The award was judged by a panel of 65 automotive journalists from 31 countries, with the 1.0L EcoBoost finishing ahead of 32 competitor engines. Judges praised its combination of drivability, performance, economy, refinement and technology that continues to set the standard.
May sales of the Focus - which is powered by a powerful and efficient 1.5L four-cylinder EcoBoost engine – rose 120 per cent to 66 units. Year-to-date sales have increased 69 per cent to 359 units.
Both the 1.0L and 1.5L EcoBoost engines use Ford’s core EcoBoost technologies of turbocharging, high-pressure direct fuel-injection and Twin-independent Variable Cam Timing to ensure optimum performance.
