The 33.6m-high and 600-tonne statue was constructed from March 2004 to December 2005 at the cost of more than VND33 billion (US$1.6 million) and was recognized by the Asia Book of Records in March 2013.
According to Nguyen Quang Lang, the vice director the province’s Culture, Sport and Tourism Department, the statue has reached a high level of aesthetics for its structure and harmony with the mountain landscape as well as its spiritual value.
Sculptor Thuy Lam said he and the workers had to work hard on the statue’s face to express the Buddha spirit.
