Bayer Vietnam reaffirmed its commitment to contribute to the sustainable development of Vietnam's agriculture by showcasing its innovative solutions for the nation's farmers at the Agritechnica Live Event from August 24 to 26.

Agritechnica Live 2022 not only provided the Mekong Delta’s farmers with access to sustainable modern technologies but also a venue for policy discussions and collaborations on the roadmap for technical solutions to sustainably transform Vietnamese agriculture.

Agritechnica Live 2022 was organised by the German Agricultural Society, VNU Exhibitions Asia Pacific, the International Rice Research Institute, the National Agricultural Extension Center (NAEC), and hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), and Can Tho People's Committee.

Under its ForwardFarming concept, Bayer unwrapped its offering through a wide range of activities including on-farm demonstrations, presentations at technical conferences, and exhibitions of advanced solutions for various crops.

Sharing the common objective of improving farm productivity and sustainable agricultural practices in Vietnam, the NAEC under the MARD and Bayer signed an MoU to cooperate and share practical measures for farmers in the Mekong Delta.

The areas of cooperation under this MoU include collaborations on key sustainable rice production in the delta and support to improve on-farm practices, productivity, and crop quality, together with other industry stakeholders.

During the demonstrations at the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute, Bayer presented its Much More Rice solutions to help Vietnamese farmers enhance their rice yields, quality, and profitability while addressing the long-term challenges posed by pests, diseases, weeds, and unfavourable environmental conditions.

With the combination of timely applications of seed treatments, herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides and with proper cultivation and good farming practices, Much More Rice solutions have proven their effectiveness in controlling insects, diseases, and weeds to ensure the protection of the farmland ecosystem, reducing chemical use in agriculture, and improving the incomes of local farmers.

In addition, Bayer also presented its Airfarm – an innovative digital modular platform designed to serve multiple purposes including spraying, fertilising, sowing, and growth management to promote sustainability and efficiency in farming by leveraging drones for smart field mapping as well as future disease prediction.

Other integrated crop management solutions for different crops were also promoted at the Bayer exhibition stand at the Muong Thanh Hotel. These include Much More Watermelon, Much More Tomato, Much More Mango, and Much More Pomelo.

“At Bayer, we believe human ingenuity can shape the future of agriculture. For more than 150 years, we've used science and imagination to advance health and nutrition. Together, we can achieve so much more. Bayer Vietnam is proud to showcase its innovations for a variety of crops, aiming to help Vietnamese farmers produce more with less in the fight against climate change.”- Chu Viet Ha, head of the Crop Science Division of Bayer Vietnam

A farmer attending the event shared, “There have been several threats facing rice farmers in Vietnam, ranging from pests, diseases, and the rising cost of inputs to saltwater intrusion and extreme weather events that resulted in reduced output and rice quality. For a long time, I kept searching for suitable farming practices and comprehensive crop protection solutions that can tackle these challenges. The Bayer Much More Rice solution was introduced to me last year and has shown positive signs in terms of effectively controlling rice diseases when applied in my paddy field, promising my family a bountiful harvest.”
