International University Ho Chi Minh City student Nguyen Lam Diem Trang has become Vietnam’s first-ever Coffee Ambassador.

Trang won the country’s ladies-only contest launched in February and ending on March 10, as part of Vietnam’s 2013 Coffee Festival from March 9 to 12 in the Central Highlands Dak Lak province, the nation’s coffee growing hub.

The 22-year-old, from the Mekong province of Vinh Long, will be at the forefront of a campaign to promote Vietnamese coffee’s image within the country and internationally.

For the title, she received a cash prize of VND100 million ($4,800) and a crown worth VND50 million. Trang prevailed over 24 other final competitors.

She was among the 28 young Vietnamese people selected to join the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Programme in 2012. The programme’s goal is to promote and strengthen friendship and mutual understanding among the youths of regional countries and Japan. Trang is also an MC for some Ho Chi Minh City Television shows.
