Performers include the Budapest Operetta and Musical Theatre from Hungary, directed by conductor László Makláry, featuring four opera singers, namely Szilvi Szendy, Dávid Szabó, Mónika Fischl and Gergely Boncsér. The concert is expected to be a mixture of music, literature, history, and ballet. The artists are going to perform popular musicals and operettas such as Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera, and Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus.
Toyotal Classics 2015 also features Vietnamese violinist Hoang Tuan Cuong who received the special prize in the International Louis Spohr Competition for Young Violinists in 1994 and the first prize in the Max Reger International Competition for Chamber Music. Hoang has performed in many countries, including Germany, Poland, Croatia, Italy, and Finland. He is going to perform Romance no. 2 in F major by Ludwig van Beethoven.
“The Toyota Classics series has given the Vietnamese audience the chance to enjoy classics performed by many world-famous artists and orchestras,” said Ngo Hoang Quan, deputy head of the Agency for Performing Arts under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
“We hope to bring world-class performances to the Vietnamese audience and give local talents the chance to perform and learn from world-famous artists and orchestras,” said Doan Thi Yen, deputy general director of Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV).
Toyota Classics 2015 is going to be held in seven countries in the region, namely Brunei, the Philipines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia between October 10 and 31.
Toyota has held 184 performances in Asian countries in the past 25 years. This is the 18th year the concert is held in Vietnam. The proceeds from ticket sales have been used to finance activities promoting culture and art in Vietnam. Since 2009, the proceeds have been used in the Toyota Scholarship for young Vietnamese music talents.
