The male singer's victory seems predictable since the song had previously won the title "Song of the Month" in October, November, and December. In addition, Hung has a huge fan base, who contributed significantly to his win by entering their votes.

Together with the large cash prize of VND1 billion (nearly US$48,000), which was granted to the singer, the organiser also presented VND300 million ($14,000) to the song's composer, Tran Tien.

The singer and composer staged a duet at the award ceremony.

The ceremony also featured other songs that won "Song of the Month" during 2013.

The ceremony opened with a performance from Tung Duong, who sang Doc Dao (Only Path) – traditional folk tunes blended with modern world music. The song, which featured in the artist's latest world jazz style album, has received broad critical acclaim and a warm welcome from music lovers.
