More than 1.8 million foreigners have arrived in Ho Chi Minh City in the first six months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 10 per cent, and equivalent to 48 per cent of this year’s target.

In the same period the city’s tourism turnover reached VND34 trillion, up 15 per cent.

La Quoc Khanh, vice director of the Municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the city is concentrating on advertising that promotes domestic markets and international cooperation to build a safe, friendly and civil environment for tourists.

The department is also running programmes to further stimulate demand and develop interest in local waterways.

Ho Chi Minh City is currently coordinating with cities and provinces in eastern and southwestern regions to develop farm and orchard tours to attract visitors to these localities.
