Tam has been on the scene since 1999 as a pop singer/songwriter who can play guitar, piano, organ and is also an established dancer. In 2012, she won the Best Asian Artist at the 2012 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) in South Korea, becoming the first Vietnamese artist to do so.

Other artists in the running were: pop singer Dong Nhi (20,511), 365DaBand (5,752), Thu Minh (3,308), Noo Phuoc Thinh (1,733), Vietnam Idol 2010 winner Uyen Linh (1,003), Khac Viet (751), Tuan Hung (657), Phuong Thanh (432) and Lam Truong (315).

Based on the votes and other requirements, MTV Vietnam decided to choose My Tam who has to compete with other singers from Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand in a regional vote.

There has been no update on the vote for the Best Worldwide Act from the organizers of MTV EMA 2013. However, last year there were four avenues to vote, on the official website, mobile website, Facebook and mobile app of MTV EMA.
