VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020 donates collections to COVID-19 fight

VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020 supports VND109 million to the COVID-19 fight

By teaming up with 84RACE, VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020 for the first time held this online sporting event, which is the first-ever online race held with all the distances and the prize structure exactly like a professional marathon, including four distances: 42km, 21km, 10km, and 5km.

The race was organised in response to the government's call for people to stay at home while accompanying runners to keep up the tempo through the epidemic season, and especially to cheer and honour the physicians, the white-blouse angels who are working against time at front-line hospitals fighting COVID-19 nationwide.

The marathon tournament took place from April 8 to 22, attracting the participation of more than 200 athletes and runners. Registered runners can pick either of the marathon's four distances and complete it at one run, while they can run the distance as many times as possible within the duration of the race. Results recorded by their sports watch connected to the 84RACE platform helped determine the winners.

Apart from the opportunity to win a prize, each will also get a free Bib to join the VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020 to be held on October 18.

Thanks to the guidance of the authorities, all contributions from runners were donated to activities under the "Home Marathon in Support of White-Blouse Angels to Win the COVID-19 Pandemic" and transferred to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases – the frontline hospital in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to donating the entire amount of VND109 million ($4,740), the Organizing Committee of VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020 also offered each athlete to participate in the Home Marathon 01 BIB running for free at any distance of the expected tournament to be held on October 18, 2020. The VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020 is now part of the national competition system and has been selected as one of the ASEAN's sporting events to welcome Vietnam as the rotating chairman of the association.

In order to encourage exercising and instill good running habits, as well as improve health and motivate runners when the whole society is making their best attempt to ensure both economic production and fighting against the epidemic, VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020 has been organising more and more interesting and meaningful online activities. VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020 is the official race of Hanoi, hoisting the flag of unity this year as Vietnam takes the chairmanship of the ASEAN.
