An annual charity golf tournament organised by VIR is ready to tee off on October 21 with the objective of bringing opportunity and hope to talented but disadvantaged students across the country. This year’s 'Swing for the Kids' event will be held at the Kings Course, hosted by BRG Kings Island Golf Resort in Dong Mo, Son Tay district, Hanoi. The registration fee is VND3.5 million ($147.6) per golfer.

The upcoming event has received enthusiastic support from benefactors including BRG Group and co-organiser SeABank. The sponsors include Samsung Electronics Vietnam, Vingroup, Kinderworld, Sun Group, BRG Group's Bob Parsons, and Vietnam Beverages, among others.

In addition, the tournament will welcome those golfers who are also investors, entrepreneurs, and representatives of international and domestic organisations and diplomatic agencies, to show their support for disadvantaged students in remote and flood-stricken areas.

This year's tournament will see the Organising Board auction a Dang Quang watch, with all proceeds going to a charity for students in extreme difficulties.

The tournament is once again the recipient of enthusiastic support from ao dai designer Miss Dang Thi Ngoc Han, who is very active in social and charitable activities. Han and her friends will attend as golfers. She will also give out self-made fashion gifts as prizes to golfers at the tournament.

Le Trong Minh, VIR's editor-in-chief and head of the tournament's Organising Board said, “During the past 16 years, from economic crisis and raging pandemic to more peaceful times, the business community and those with compassionate hearts have stood with VIR as we organised this charity golf tournament.”

VIR’s charity golf tournament is part of the traditional and noble responsibility of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, which has always paid a lot of attention to social work, encouraging contributions from public and private bodies to support our fellow Vietnamese affected by natural disasters, storms, floods, epidemics, or those who are disadvantaged by disabilities,” Minh said.

Former Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc, and chairman of the fund, said, “This charity golf tournament is special as it has done plenty of good work thanks to its many benefactors since the first tournament in 2008.”

“Over the past 16 years, the traditional values of the tournament remain unchanged, despite the organising board's consistent efforts to explore new avenues. For example, this year, the head of the event’s organising board also learned to play golf, just to participate in the tournament,” Phuc said.

Over the past 16 years, the event has raised over $850,000 and handed out almost 20,000 scholarships to outstanding young students across the country in need of financial support. It has also facilitated upgrades to learning facilities in 40 cities and provinces.
