Vietnam New Economy Forum 2023 attracts over 300 participants |
The event was organised by co-hosted by Vietnam Economic Times (VET) and the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM).
Including addresses and discussions involving various stakeholders, the forum also provided opportunities for businesses to share information on current policies, exchange with domestic and international experts to promote business investment within new economic models.
Nguyen Hoa Cuong, vice director of the CIEM under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, clarified new economic models contributing to sustainable growth and development, which combine the sharing economy, digital economy, and green or circular economy.
“The sharing economy model helps to save resources through increased productivity, promotes intra-sector competition, reduces transaction cost, and contributes to enhanced development and application of technology. In addition, it will expand markets, and generate employment and income,” Cuong said. “Digital economy currently contributes about 15 per cent GDP, expected to be 20 per cent in 2025 and 30 per cent in 2030. Meanwhile, according to Google & Temasek, the growth rate of 28 per cent is at the top ASEAN. The circular economy has been identified as a key model and needs to be promoted in many fields.”
Speaking at the address session, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Do Thanh Trung highlighted several discussion issues related to the new economic model.
The issues were prioritising science and technology and developing high-quality human resources to effectively deploy new economic models; ensuring equality and human rights when implementing new economic models; close coordination between relevant parties, with the State leading and the business community playing a pioneering role; grasping progressive global trends and strengthening international cooperation; and calling on developed countries to provide financial support to developing countries to work towards common global goals.
The discussion involved an exchange based on the practical implementation of new economic models and new business models. Participants evaluated the suitability and effectiveness of each model, as well as the simultaneous impact of new economic models and new business models in implementing growth and sustainable development goals.
The session saw the participation of representatives of new economic models, including the FPT Group (the digital economy), VinFast (the digital economy and the green economy), Grab Vietnam (the sharing economy), MoMo (technology-based financial services), and Nam Cau Kien Eco-Industrial Park (the circular economy), as well as HSBC, a provider of green capital for new economic models that promote sustainable development, and Deloitte Vietnam.
The event also announced the Top 10 and Top 50 Vietnamese Excellent Brands 2022-2023. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Vietnamese Excellent Brands programme, organised by the Vietnam Economic Times.
