Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics and Vietnamese Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha signed the co-operative agreement on education |
According to the co-operation agreement, Vietnam and Latvia will regularly exchange information and share experiences in education and training development; promote the expansion of direct co-operation between educational institutions through exchanging students, teachers, lecturers, education officials, scientists, experts, educational projects, and joint research programmes, as well as conferences and seminars.
The two sides will consider granting scholarships for bachelor, master, doctoral degrees, as well as researching and attending summer schools, as well as discussing aboutthe recognition of educational qualifications and certificates. In addition, the two sides also co-operate in the frameworks of ASEM, UNESCO, the EU, and other multilateral co-operation.
The two sides will also co-ordinate to establish a joint working group to implement and evaluate the Co-operation Agreement and hold alternative meetings in the two countries.
Before 1991, hundreds of Vietnamese students were sent to study in the former Republic of Latvia which belonged to the former Soviet Union. This agreement will open a new phase of co-operation in the field of education and training between the two countries, contributing to upgrading the bilateral relations.
