The signing ceremony between VNA and Delta Air Lines |
This is a new step in the Vietnamese-US aviation co-operation since the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted the Category 1 rating (CAT 1) to Vietnam in February 2019.
Accordingly, the two airlines will test the operation system in September 2019 and then one month later, when VNA’s system is assessed to meet the standards, Delta Air Lines will sell tickets for VNA’s Hanoi-Tokyo flights to serve passengers who want to flight to the US via Tokyo transit. This is the first step for VNA to study the Vietnam-US aviation market.
Earlier since 2010, VNA signed one-way codeshare co-operation agreement with Delta Air Lines on 10 air routes to and from the US and the 10 other domestic routes in the US. Thanks to the co-operation, VNA passengers can fly to eight states in the US by transferring to flights of Delta Air Lines in Tokyo or Frankfurt of Germany.
In 2018, the number of passengers on the Vietnam-US flights reached 757,000, up 8 per cent on year. At present, there is no direct flight between Vietnam and the US.
