Lien handed out donations to struggling localities |
Speaking at the ceremony, honorary South African Consul in Ho Chi Minh City Do Thi Kim Lien affirmed that 2018 marks a turning point in the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and South Africa.
Mpetjane Kgaogelo Lekgoro, South African Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Vietnam, affirmed that the two countries agreed to boost cooperation in politics, trade, science and technology, and national defence. Trade between Vietnam and South Africa rose from over $700 million in 2012 to over $1.5 billion in 2017, and it is forecast to hit $2 billion in 2018.
On the occasion, South African consul Do Thi Kim Lien donated over VND5 billion ($222,200) to many difficult localities. The beneficiaries are Hau Giang, Tay Ninh, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Hanoi, Hoa Binh, Dien Bien, and Lai Chau.
With the activity, the South African Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City continued to lengthen its charitable journey in Vietnam.
Just as during the Lunar New Year, Lien also visited and gave scholarships to pupils of Tan Lac High-School in Hoa Binh province. It is also a poor province in the uplands, with 63.3 per cent of the population being of the Muong ehnic group. On this occasion, Lien supported the Fund for the Poor in Hoa Binh province with VND1 billion ($44,444).
Earlier, she supported the construction of a nursery school with VND150 million ($6,666) at Chieng Giang village, Pho Nhu commune, Dien Bien district. Lien also contributes VND12 billion ($533,333) to the welfare fund of Gia Lam district, Hanoi, where the Duong River surface water plant project is located.
What's more, Lien supported the building of a clean vegetable garden for soldiers and supporting the construction of many gratitude houses for the relatives of soldiers.
Earlier, on the occasion of Vietnamese Care and Protection Day, the honorary South African Consul in Ho Chi Minh City and VASS also paid a visit and donated over 234 clothes for children who are living and studying at the Ho Chi Minh City Commune Protection Centre. This year, she handed over 100 scholarships worth VND50 million ($2,222) to the children.
