J&T Express launches COVID-19 relief fund to support employees

J&T Express has launched several initiatives to protect the health and safety of its employees

According to data from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, since the beginning of the year, 1,365 businesses have been experiencing difficulties due to the pandemic, more than 42,500 workers lost their jobs or stopped working, 410 businesses needed loans to pay wages to workers, and 2,274 enterprises completed dissolution procedures. Thus, businesses are in an urgent need to maintain operations and take care of employees during the pandemic.

Since its inception in Vietnam in 2018, J&T Express has made an effort to contribute to the development of Vietnam's express delivery industry. In particular, the company has been striving to overcome challenges due to the disruptions caused by the pandemic.

The representative of J&T Express said that the company places top priority on ensuring operations and protecting the health and safety of its staff amidst the rising coronavirus infections. Since the early days of the outbreak, the company regularly sprays disinfectant at its offices and workplaces and has equipped staff with masks and hand sanitisers.

In the face of the prolonged and unpredictable pandemic, the company has quickly launched J&T Care Support Fund to support employees and their families who are affected by the pandemic. J&T Care Support Fund was established with an innitial amount of VND3 billion. Determined on a case-by-case basis, the fund will provide VND2-5 million ($87-217) to each beneficiary.

Currently, J&T Express is present in 63 provinces and cities with a network of more than 1,900 post offices, 1,000 freight trucks, and more than 25,000 employees nationwide.

Doan Ngoc G., a delivery employee at J&T Express' Binh Duong branch said that, “I am a shipper while my wife sells groceries to make a living. In the past few months, our income has reduced significantly due to the pandemic. We are very worried as we have to provide for six people in our family. We continue to work to sustain our livehoods despite the risk of coronavirus infection. Fortunately, we felt extremely relieved when J&T Express kicked off J&T Care Support Fund to support shippers in difficulty during the pandemic."

J&T Express has also been actively implementing several corporate social responsibility activities such as transporting medical equipment, donanting essential products, and providing free rides in virus-hit localities.

Businesses are facing mounting challenges from the pandemic. However, with the spirit of solidarity, many solutions have been proposed to revive businesses and stabilise the economy as well as ensure the quality of life for employees.
