Japanese calligrapher Takeda Souun comes to Hanoi

The Japanese Embassy in Vietnam will organize calligraphy demonstration and workshop entitled “The Power of Calligraphy” from Takeda Souun at Temple of Literature in Hanoi at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Souun, a popular Japanese calligrapher, was appointed “Japan Cultural Envoy 2013” by Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs. He has made many demonstrations and lectures on calligraphy as well as calligraphy writing for various events around the world.

In addition, he has collaborated with various artists such as musicians and sculptors and organized many original exhibitions with colorful attractions. This is the first time he has come to Vietnam to let local people witness his magic.

In Hanoi, he will have a demonstration and exchange with Vietnamese artist Trung Hieu, member of Vietnam UNESCO Calligraphy Club at Literature Temple.

Souun will go to Hoi An to lecture at a workshop at the Japan-Hoi An Festival at 3 p.m. on August 24 and at 11 a.m. on August 25 at Song Hoai River Square.

Invitations can be received at the embassy, 27 Lieu Giai Street or at the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, 27 Quang Trung Street.
