Impressive tourism results for New Year weekend

Vietnamese tourism recorded around three million visitors with $417 million revenue over New Year, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).

Over the recent New Year period, Ho Chi Minh City recorded the highest number of international travellers with 1.6 million with an average occupancy estimated at 85 per cent. Khanh Hoa served 355,200 guests with an average occupancy of 63.76 per cent and tourism revenue estimated at $1.5 million. Hanoi welcomed 208,000 visitors for an average occupancy of 63.4 per cent along with an approximate revenue of $33.8 million.

According to the VNAT, over three public holidays from December 31, 2022 to January 2, 2023, the average occupancy at accommodation facilities reached 35-40 per cent.

Giving an overview of tourism activities during the New Year holiday, VNAT general director Nguyen Trung Khanh said, “Positive signs in the number of international visitors to Vietnam has proved the timely direction of Vietnam’s tourism in restructuring the market and actively renewing its products.”

Several other localities also recorded positive signals in the number of international visitors, most of whom came from the South Korea, Russia, Germany, Spain, and some new markets including India, the Middle East, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

Impressive tourism results for New Year weekend

The central coastal province of Khanh Hoa welcomed 160 Kazakh and 120 Korean guests, while Danang served 170 guests from Seoul on January 1. In just three days, tourist group Vietravel welcomed 200 international guests while Saigontourist welcomed 378 international guests, bringing in an estimated $1.8 million in revenue.

In addition, travel agencies organised many attractive tour programmes, additional destinations, events promoting Vietnam’s tourism image, and a series of entertainment and shopping activities.

Travel companies in Ho Chi Minh City introduced attractive service packages linking travel businesses and tourist accommodation, dining, and entertainment establishments with discounts of up to 55 per cent. In Hanoi, entertainment activities were held at many cultural attractions such as Ba Vi National Park, Son Tay Ancient Citadel, Duong Lam Ancient Village, and Bat Trang Pottery Museum.
