The collaboration with the MAUR is considered a strategic move by Autodesk to expand its business in Vietnam.
This follows its commitment to effectively support BIM application in the construction of transportation infrastructure in Vietnam during discussions with the Minister of Transport in November 2023.
The agreement signifies Autodesk's role as a consultant and supporter for the MAUR in promoting successful digital transformation and efficient BIM application in the urban railway sector over the next three years.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Smitha Raghunathan, Autodesk's acting regional director for ASEAN, stated that this collaboration further demonstrates Autodesk's commitment to accompanying the Vietnamese government on its digital transformation and BIM application journey across various sectors, starting with construction and extending to transportation. It will also open possibilities for cooperation in other fields in the future.
"This agreement represents a strategic step, laying the foundation for BIM application in the transportation sector and promoting BIM applications across various sectors in Vietnam. This follows Autodesk’s significant collaboration with the Institute of Construction Economics, under the Ministry of Construction, in 2017 and 2023," said Raghunathan.

To apply BIM, the MAUR still faces many challenges in terms of legal and capacity, human resources, equipment, and software.
Facing those difficulties, having the companionship of consultants and professional BIM software and tool providers such as Autodesk will be valuable support for the MAUR to judge with the right direction and move more quickly and easily in applying BIM for urban railway construction project management in Ho Chi Minh City.
Specifically, through this collaboration, Autodesk and the MAUR will enhance strategic cooperation to support digital transformation solutions throughout the entire ecosystem.
Ken Soh, Autodesk’s senior engagement leader, said that together, the two sides will develop a digital transformation framework to ensure success.
“Our collaboration will include exploring overseas immersion programmes, developing standardised documents for BIM projects, creating certification schemes, improving and digitising metro project processes, and introducing BIM for urban railway projects. We are excited to work together towards a digitally transformed future,” said Soh.
The collaboration will create a clear implementation roadmap to accelerate digital transformation and effective BIM application throughout the ecosystem, including strategic cooperation where both parties will establish a joint management group to conduct strategic discussions twice a year to monitor and ensure the progress of all planned initiatives. Both sides will also participate in global programmes and events and learn from the best BIM practices worldwide.
The two parties will organise workshops to assess the current capabilities, determine strategic goals, and develop an effective digital transformation roadmap with detailed steps for personnel development, process and technology application standards, and sample profiles for BIM project implementation and related documentation.
Other solutions include introducing training courses and BIM certifications, improving and digitising processes in the implementation of urban railway projects by integrating suitable technology solutions at each project stage, and introducing and advising on the pilot application of BIM for technology in urban railway construction projects.
