AkzoNobel’s new plant paints its larger investment landscape

It marks AkzoNobel’s fourth plant in Vietnam and the first for the wood finishes and adhesives business. Covering 400,000 square metres with a capacity of 36,000 tonnes of finishes and adhesives per annum, AkzoNobel’s new facility embraces a large warehouse and production area which allows further expansion.  

The plant also includes a laboratory, a colour studio, a show room and a solvent tank farm.
Leif Darner, AkzoNobel’s board member responsible for performance coatings, said: “The opening of this new facility demonstrates our commitment to our performance coatings customers in Vietnam and across the region.

“South East Asia is key to our growth strategy and we will continue to invest in our activities here in the years to come,” he added.

The Amata site is one of AkzoNobel’s strategic industrial wood coatings manufacturing sites, established to supply coatings to manufacturers throughout South East Asia.

Currently, the product line covers a full range of conventional and sustainable wood coatings, including nitrocellulose products, polyurethanes, waterborne systems, UV cure and alkyd/urea products.

In addition to wood coatings, the site services other segments of AkzoNobel’s performance coatings, including coil coatings for the steel structure industry. Ryan Oates, general manager of AkzoNobel Coatings Vietnam, said: “This new state-of-the-art wood finishes and adhesives site was established as part of our long-term commitment to follow our customer investments in growth areas and make quality products that our customers can trust, while always putting employee safety first.”

AkzoNobel has manufactured industrial wood coatings for original equipment manufacturers in South East Asia for nearly 30 years.
