SINGAPORE: They are one of the biggest rock bands on the planet, and it shows.
Aerosmith oozed charisma as they made their way to the stage, during a media conference in Singapore on Wednesday, ahead of their Saturday gig.
They walked with a bit of a swagger, and were pretty spry for guys in their 60s.
Just how do they do it?
Aerosmith’s lead vocalist Steven Tyler believes music is the key to staying young.
“I live vicariously through the music. And so I become Peter Pan …
“Music does a thing. That’s why it’s so popular. Everybody loves to dance to it, sing to it and it keeps you young.”
“I’ve married it, and I live it and I breathe it and so it offers me that. Plus, women do something to me, I can’t explain,” said the 65-year-old rocker with a wry smile.
Despite its age – Aerosmith has been together for 43 years now - the band has been keeping up with the times, and is pretty active on Twitter as well as other social media platforms.
Tyler believes social media is a good way for the band to stay in touch with its fans, and pointed out that it also affords newcomers to the industry a chance to gain some exposure.
Still, there can sometimes be too much of a good thing.
Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry said the pervasiveness of social media meant that the band members have to constantly give their best, as every performance is likely to be recorded by someone and shared with thousands of others over social media.
“You got to play good all the time now, because you know it’s going to end up on YouTube no matter what.
“So if anything, it (social media) gives us a boot in the ass to keep on going, there are no off nights,” said Perry, before Tyler jumped in to offer his unique take on the matter.
“It makes you check to see if your fly is down more often,” he quipped.
