In spite of chilly weather, 20,000 Vietnamese and international tourists flocked to Sa Pa during the four-day New Year vacation to contemplate blooming cherry blossoms.

An Australian visitor, Edward Cavil, said he was very excited to welcome the new year in Vietnam, as the weather in Australia at this time was extremely hot. He was also pleased to see that the Vietnamese people were so friendly.

Nguyen Ngoc Hinh, Deputy Chairman of Sa Pa District’s People Committee, said that because of the fresh environment and special cultural features, Sa Pa has become a friendly destination for both Vietnamese and international visitors. Thus, the number of Vietnamese and international visitors to Sa Pa has increased in recent years, especially in winter.

Local authorities and relevant organizations of Sa Pa also have paid careful attention to improving the environment as well as upgrading the quality of tourist services to attract more visitors.

610,000 people travelled to Sa Pa in 2012, ten times higher than in 2011.
