According to the Culture National Target Programme for 2012-2015, 300 special national heritage sites will be restored and 1,200-1,500 sites will also receive support to prevent them from further deterioration. Five aspects of cultural heritage will also be submitted to UNESCO for recognition.

The government will continue to restore unfinished heritage sites, with the aim of restoring 60 to 90 sites annually and preventing degradation for 300-400 sites. The funding for this project is estimated at VND5.2 trillion of a total approved VND7.4 trillion.

The Prime Minister ordered a finish to the classification of heritage sites of the country. There are about 500 projects to collect and preserve elements of the country’s heritages in a database.

The cultural sector plans to send files on five ‘intangible’ heritages to UNESCO, restore some 20 festivals and transform some old villages into cultural tourism sites. The government will also carry out a VND290 billion project to support provincial and city museums to buy 10-30 artifacts each year for the next three years.

In addition, traditional art troupes will receive financial support and upgraded theatres, especially localities that have their own unique arts. Equipment and training courses for both state and private sector artists will also considered in the project.
