For generations, kermis has become a cultural trait of people in the mountainous region as this is a place for trading goods, for the elderly to meet and chat, for children to play, and also for young adults to find partners.

Opened from the early hours of every Sunday, Dao San in the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau is one of the typical kermises.

Located around 50 kilometers from the center of Lai Chau Province, the kermis gathers many people from the ethnic minority groups of Mong, Ha Nhi, Dao and Thai who come from the province’s Phong Tho District and create a multi-color picture of the area thanks to their colorful traditional costumes.

Dao San kermis is not only a wholesale market for trading agricultural products but a place for cultural exchanges among ethic people. Therefore, it is always filled up with laughter and talk by both adults and children.
