Among them, there were 124 projects granted new investment registration certificates last year, with the total registered capital of $282.68 million – equivalent to 66.3 per cent of 2022's figure. Meanwhile, businesses also adjusted the investment capital for 25 projects last year with an additional $138.21 million, up 28.7 per cent from a year earlier.
Vietnamese businesses have made investments across 16 industries. Among them, the wholesale and retail industry ranked first with 41 new ventures and seven capital adjustments. These projects have a total registered capital of $156.9 million, accounting for 37.3 per cent of the total outbound investment.
Meanwhile, the information and communication industry followed closely behind, making up 28.7 per cent of the total. Next in line were electricity production and distribution, healthcare and social support activities, agroforestry, and fisheries.
There were 26 countries and territories receiving Vietnamese investments in 2023. Among them, Canada was the largest recipient, with one new project and two capital adjustments worth $150.3 million. This accounted for 35.7 per cent of the total, and was followed by Singapore, Laos, and Cambodia.
As of December 12, Vietnam had 1,701 valid overseas ventures valued at $22.1 billion. With many being profitable, businesses transferred a sum of $2 billion to Vietnam in 2023.
In terms of inbound investment, as much as $36.61 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) capital was registered in Vietnam as of December 20, up 32.1 per cent on-year. Realised FDI rose by 3.5 per cent to a five-year high of $23.18 billion.
