An exhibition on Vietnamese culture opened in Brussels, Belgium on October 11.

On display are old images of Vietnam collected by Clement Huet, who lived in Hanoi from 1912-1938.

The exhibition also features a collection of antiques, including Bat Trang pottery, a reproduction of a Dong Son Drum and many other objects.

Visitors have an opportunity to explore Vietnam’s culture through photos, articles from temples and pagodas, Buddha statues and objects from archaeological excavation sites in Vietnam.

Videos depicting the production process of Bat Trang pottery, Dong Ho folk paintings and the casting of bells are also being screened at the event.

President of the House of Representatives Andre Flahaut said the event is a good chance for the Belgian people to understand more about Vietnam’s culture, and that it contributes to promoting diplomatic ties and economic co-operation between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Foreign Affair Didier Reynders said he is impressed with Vietnam’s gastronomy, as well as the photos and objects exhibited at the event.

The exhibition runs until May 2014 as part of activities to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
