Local acts have a chance to participate in the Best Worldwide Act category which is a new prize  debuted in 2011. South Korea’s Big Bang brought home the prize with the largest number of votes from fans all over the world at MTV EMA in Northern Ireland capital Belfast in 2011. Last year, Han Geng, former member of the South Korean boy band Super Juniors won the prize in Frankfurt, Germany.

MTV Vietnam has the responsibility of choosing a candidate for the awards. There are three phases from September 16 to October 24, October 25 to October 31 and
November 1 to 8 to vote for the Best Worldwide Act with the participation of artists from Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand and of course Vietnam.

In Vietnamese history no artist has approached the foreign music market. In 2012, pop singer My Tam won the Best Asian Artist at the 2012 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) in South Korea, becoming the first Vietnamese artist to do so.

The MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) was established in 1994 by MTV Networks Europe to celebrate the most popular songs and singers in Europe. Originally an alternative to the American MTV Video Music Awards, the MTV Europe Music Awards is today a popular celebration of what MTV viewers consider the best in music.

The host city changes annually. It has been hosted four times in the U.K and five times in Germany.

EMA together with VMA (Video Music Awards) and VMAJ (Video Music Awards Japan) are the three of the most prestigious awards shows in world music.
