Vietnamese-American actress to star in 'Star Wars 8'

Kelly Marie Tran, an actress of Vietnamese origin, has been selected as the cast member of‘Star Wars Episode VIII-an upcoming American epic space opera film written and directed by Rian Johnson.

According to American website Mashable.com, Kelly Marie Tran has acted in small film and TV roles since 2011. Recently, she appeared in a popular video called "Periods Aren't That Gross" for CollegeHumor.

The website also noted that during her work with CollegeHumor, she worked with comedian Adam Conover on his show‘Adam Ruins Everything’and was also a featured actress on two episodesof the ‘About A Boy’ sitcom on NBC and one episode of ‘Comedy Bang! Bang!’ on IFC.

She was also known for several independent short films including The Rising Cost of Cosmetics (2011), Untouchable (2011), and Andy's CDs (2013).

Mashable.com also revealed Tran's role in the next Star Wars movie will be comedic.

The film, produced by Lucas film and distributed worldwide by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, attracted the participation of stars from previous episode, namely Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, LupitaNyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis.

Episode VIII is scheduled for release on December 15, 2017.
