The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism plans to hold a tourism and film promotion campaign in the United States during the third and fourth quarters of 2024.

In late July, the ministry announced a plan to host the Vietnam Tourism and Film Promotion Programme in San Francisco and Los Angeles over the next six months.

The goal of this initiative is to attract Hollywood studios to Vietnam by showcasing its tourism destinations and potential filming locations, in hopes of producing high-profile films that gain international media attention.

Additionally, the programme aims to establish Vietnam as a sustainable and high-quality tourism spot, while also creating networking opportunities for Vietnamese tourism firms and American businesses and partners.

Key activities involve facilitating meetings between the Vietnamese delegation and American tourism and film organisations, major tourism corporations, media conglomerates, airlines, cruise lines, and other partners to promote collaboration in the tourism and film industry.

In addition, ministry officials will host a seminar to present Vietnam’s tourism and film potential and arrange a showcase of Vietnamese culture and heritage in the US.

The showcase is expected to feature traditional Vietnamese art performances and servings of traditional and contemporary cuisine. The space will include photographs highlighting Vietnam’s natural landscapes, history, culture, and UNESCO heritage sites, emphasising potential filming locations and notable tourism products and services.

In light of Vietnam-US relations advancing to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2023 and the favourable outcomes of Vietnam Airlines’ direct flights to the US, this initiative seeks to amplify promotional activities and entice American travellers to visit Vietnam. By 2028, Vietnam aims to welcome 1.3 million American tourists and position the US among the top three markets for inbound tourism to Vietnam.

According to the ministry, the US outbound market will reach 177 million overseas trips by 2029. Prior to COVID-19, the US was consistently among the top five international tourist source markets for Vietnam, with visitors known for extended stays and high spending.
