Although Christmas is still a few weeks away, much of the country appears to be decked out in festive colours and spirit.

With the arrival of the first northeast monsoon in Hanoi and the sudden onset of cold drizzle, the spirit of the holiday season is infiltrating every major street and even the smallest alleyways with joy.

Hang Ma Street has been dazzling with vivid colour since the beginning of the holiday season. These hues range from vibrant pine trees and comedic figures of Santa Claus to mistletoe branches and sparkling lights that make visitors feel woozy. Even though it's not the weekend, this street is still packed with people and cars, from Vietnamese to foreigners. Everyone is evidently delighted as they chat, giggle, capture images, make purchases, and are even willing to wish each other a Happy New Year.

Hang Ma Street in is not the sole site where Christmas decorations have been depicted and embellished for the holiday season. Since the beginning of November, as soon as Halloween was over, famous coffee shops, restaurants, supermarket chains, and crowded shopping malls in major cities have displayed and adorned Christmas decorations. The classical Christmas carols just keep on playing, wherever they go, seeking to make people's minds momentarily pleased and enthusiastic to greet the celebration.

In contrast to the festive spirit of Christmas in Hanoi, the major cities and provinces of Vietnam only occasionally celebrate the holiday. This year, Ho Chi Minh City has just begun a few Christmas decorations, including at tourist sites such as Nguyen Hue pedestrian street and a few bistros, resorts, and shopping malls that have altered their appearance. Possibly due to the heat and humidity, residents wait until closer to Christmas to begin celebrating.

Similarly, the Christmas spirit is spreading slowly in other major tourist cities such as Phu Quoc, Danang, and Nha Trang. The current time is quite early compared to the tropical southern ocean climate. Resorts, restaurants, and hotel chains, on the other hand, are rather inviting with a series of brunch programs, high tea, and year-end countdown parties such as Christmas Eve dinner and live performances at the Danang Marriott Resort & Spa, the Celebrate Together promotions at the New World Phu Quoc resort, and The Festive Wonderland with Vietnam's first Marché de Nol at the Vinpearl Nha Trang resort with great offers for tourists.

Many young people in Vietnam have widely regarded Christmas as an essential component of the chilly season. Perhaps it is the fascinating, bustling, and pleasant vibe of the festive season that has helped people to ease the fatigue and struggles of this time period caused by the sluggish economy.
