Renewable energy has become the 'fifth natural ingredient' in the brewing of Heineken in Vietnam. This new ingredient is now an indispensable element of all Heineken products.
All the products in the Heineken stable, including Heineken Original, Heineken Silver, and Heineken 0.0, are now being brewed entirely with renewable energy in Vietnam.
The thermal energy in the brewing process comes from biomass with input from agricultural by-products like rice straw, rice husks, and sawdust. Electricity demand in production is covered by Energy Attribute Certification sources from certified solar projects in Vietnam.
Heineken Vietnam is also exploring some bolder renewable electricity solutions, including direct power purchase agreements.
Renewable energy is now as integral an ingredient as malted barley, hops extracts, A-yeast and water in brewing Heineken products |
Commenting on this milestone, Anna Bizon, marketing director of Heineken Vietnam, said, "We are working every day to brew products of superior quality, create meaningful connections, and realise our sustainability vision.”
Accordingly, Vietnam has become the third country where all Heineken products are brewed with renewable energy, after the Netherlands and Brazil. This achievement is a remarkable step towards Heineken Vietnam’s ambition of becoming Net Zero in production by 2025.
British businesses eye Vietnam's renewable energy sector In a week-long visit to Vietnam, a delegation of 14 British businesses specialising in technology and renewable energy services earlier this month scouted for collaborative opportunities, eyeing the nation as a priority destination to expand their footprint in the Asia-Pacific region. |

In recent years, the region has experienced more frequent and severe climate-induced extreme weather events – such as droughts, floods, monsoons, and super typhoons – that carry heavy economic and societal costs. |
