Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has recently approved a detail plan under the Decision No.1647/QÐ-TTg to preserve and restore the Thang Long Royal Citadel in the capital city of Hanoi.

One of the Thang Long Royal Citadel’s gates.

Major tasks set in the plan include assessing the outstanding values of the citadel within the national monument system and and it’s value against other similar monuments around the world in regard to culture, history, archeology, architecture, and heritage; proposing measures to preserve, repair, manage and promote the site; and removing items without historical, cultural or architectural values, as well as limiting the construction of new buildings on the site.

The Thang Long Ancient Citadel Preservation Centre is assigned to implement the plan over the next 12 months.
