Street food film-making contest begins

The contest which runs from now until December 7 invites both locals and foreigners of all ages that are living, working or traveling in Vietnam.

Participants can use cell-phones, cameras, or professional devices to film a five-minute story about street food, people selling street food or food shops nationwide which help audiences as well as tourists understand and learn something about the unique beauty of Vietnam’s street cuisine.

Entries must be recorded and edited with/without comments and do not violate Vietnam’s regulations on politics, culture and customs. Especially, an individual or a team is allowed to apply only one entry.

The organizers will base their judgments on good content, the story-telling technique and the creativity of movie makers to grant prizes worth up to VND200 million. The judging committee consists of Michael Castengera, instructor from Georgia University, Chew Han Tah, popular Malaysian director, Huy Moeller, academic director of SIFS, Robert Danhi, food expert/photographer/food book writer, Max Murta, American director, Bui Thi Suong, vice chairwoman of HCMC Chefs’ Association and Chiem Thanh Long, director of Binh Quoi Tourist Area in HCMC’s Binh Thanh District.

There are prizes for films by cell-phones, cameras, film camera, best script, best image and audiences’ vote at an award ceremony which is expected to be held on January 5. First prize winner receives VND5 million in cash, a movie-making scholarship worth VND8 million, a GoPro HERO3: White Edition Camera, a trip worth VND8 million and dining vouchers.
