The flights, expected to carry more than 6,800 passengers, were cancelled as a precaution against storm Son Tinh’s forecast arrival in Vietnam’s central region.
The national flag carrier said on its website that it planned to rearrange 16 flights from or to Danang, four from or to Hue, and two from or to Vinh on October 28.
VNA is closely monitoring the storm and will provide their customers with updated flight schedules, it said.
Storm Son Tinh, the eighth of its kind in the East Sea, is causing heavy rain of 50-100mm in central provinces from Ha Tinh to Thua Thien Hue. At 7:00 on October 28, the system was centred 130 kms east of the Nam Dinh-Ha Tinh coastal area with winds gusting at level 13 (134-149kmh).
During the next 12 hours, it is forecast to track north-west at a speed of 10-15 kmh, eventually arriving at the Thai Binh-Thanh Hoa coastal region. Wind gusts are expected to reach level 11–12 (103–133 kmh).
In the next 12–24 hours, the storm will move in a north to north-west-north direction and weaken to a tropical low-pressure system.
