SCB helps enhance local banking industry’s communication capabilities

Peter Sands, group chief executive of Standard Chartered Bank today opened in Hanoi a media training conference organised by the State Bank of Vietnam.

The three day training course will benefit nearly 60 staff working for the State Bank and other local banks. They will be equipped with essential skills to improve the communication capabilities of the banks at a strategic and practical level. Topics covered by high profile moderators include the role of financial journalism, Public Relations skills, media handling and crisis management.

Louis Taylor, general director of Standard Chartered Bank (Vietnam) Ltd said: “It is a very great pleasure today for Standard Chartered to continue our partnership with the State Bank of Vietnam by enhancing the communication capabilities of the Vietnamese banking industry. It is Standard Chartered’s stated aim to be “Here for good” in all that we do in our business, and in helping to develop the banking industry, this initiative certainly achieves that.”

Sands also attended the launch of Standard Chartered Bank’s new Platinum Debit Card. The card is designed to suit customers’ distinctive needs with a wide range of benefits and privileges including travel and golf.

In Vietnam, Standard Chartered’s history can be traced back to 1904 when the Bank opened its first branch in Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City).  

Following the official approval from the State Bank of Vietnam, effective August 1, 2009, Standard Chartered commenced operations in its locally incorporated entity – Standard Chartered Bank (Vietnam) Limited.

Standard Chartered now has three branches and employs nearly 700 staff, providing a full suite of wholesale banking products and services to corporate and financial institutions. It also has consumer banking to serve individuals and small and medium enterprises.
