S Korean art joins VN exhibit

Every-day scenes and beautiful landscapes of Viet Nam and South Korea fill an ongoing art exhibition at the Exhibition House, 29 Hang Bai Street in Ha Noi.

Cultural exchange: One painting in the show is Truc Nguyen Van's Ha Noi's Old Quarter.

Visitors will see the Old Quarter, a village gate in the countryside, people in traditional garb walking to a festival and urban areas in South Korea as they wander the exhibition, which runs until October 7.

Called Viet Nam – South Korea Art Exchange, the show gathers 108 works from 79 members of the renowned Asian Art Academy in Korea and 23 members of the Ha Noi Fine Arts Association. The pieces include paintings, graphics and sculptures.

Most of the South Korean artists used acrylic, watercolour, Indian ink, mixed media and oil.

Au naturel: A painting on cotton cloth by Yun Hyung-sun, Invitation from Nature, is one of 108 artworks displayed at the exhibition.

Their Vietnamese counterparts chose more traditional materials like lacquer, oil and silk. The exhibition could improve both countries' understandings of art, and promote more interaction between the artists, said South Korean Ambassador Jeon Dae-joo.

Only high-quality works of art were chosen for the show, said Heo Sook, president of the K-Art International Exchange Association.

Viet Nam and South Korea share a distinct value: harmony between humans and nature.

In the last several years, Viet Nam and South Korea have held many solo and group exhibitions to boost their solidarity, but this show outpaces its predecessors, said Pham Kim Binh, chairwoman of the Ha Noi Fine Arts Association.
