This year organizers will focus on contestants from music and art schools around the country to improve the contest’s quality as well as infuse a new spirit into the six-year-old show. Thus, to be among the 60 finalists entering the theater round, participants need to have great voices to win over the jury.
During the audition round, contestants can perform with musical instruments, except electronic ones. They will receive instruction from experts and especially from the music director/musician Huy Tuan.
Popular movie director Nguyen Quang Dung will return to the judging panel while the other two judges have not been unveiled yet.
Vietnamese citizens aged between 16 and 30 can apply. There are three ways to register, via the website www.vietnamidol.vtv.vn, SMS (applies to Hanoi and HCMC contestants), and on-site registrations at audition locations (Hue, Danang, Nha Trang: Sep. 7, Dalat: Sep. 10, Haiphong: Sep. 12, Can Tho: Sep. 21, Hanoi: Sep. 21-22, HCMC: Oct. 12-13)
