Binu Jacob, managing director of Nestlé Vietnam said, “Climate change is a global issue that requires a comprehensive combination of global solutions. With the reforestation activity, we wish to contribute to raising awareness and spark interest in combating climate change while promoting environmental conservation efforts among our employees."

According to Do Thi Thanh Huyen, director of Gaia Nature Conservation Center, Nestlé’s reforestation activity has contributed 1,000 large trees to the Dong Nai Cultural Nature Reserve. These plants will provide native precious wood and food for wildlife.

This action also helps to restore and regenerate forest ecosystems, which helps to mitigate the harmful effects of climate change. Gaia and Nestlé will monitor and care for the newly planted trees for many years to ensure optimal growth.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, La Vie, a member of the Nestlé Group in Vietnam, collaborated with the Long An Department of Natural Resources and Environment to plant trees to contribute to protecting the environment and regenerating water resources. La Vie and its employees took part in planting and presenting 100 trees to the People's Committee of Tan Tru district in Long An.

Climate change has caused extreme weather like global warming and rising sea level. As one of the most vulnerable to climate change, Vietnam has actively participated in global efforts to combat climate change.

Since the end of 2019, Nestlé Group has been developing a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in stages, with the goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 across its operations and supply chain. Nestlé has launched an investment plan in September 2021 to promote regenerative agriculture with an emphasis on protecting and regenerating soil and its ecology. The group considers this initiative as a viable option for sustainable development to safeguard the environment and battle climate change.

Nestlé also has taken concrete measures to exert a positive impact on the environment in Vietnam, such as running partnership programmes to reduce plastic waste. Nestlé has actively realised its commitment by making all of its packaging recyclable or re-usable by 2025. It has led an initiative to support sustainable coffee farming in the Central Highlands as well as adopting circular economic models in manufacturing activities.

Established in 1995, Nestlé Vietnam has continuously expanded its investment and diversified products to serve food and nutrition demand and optimise the role of food to improve the quality of life in Vietnam. The company has implemented many practical activities that have helped to shift consumer and corporate communities' attitudes and behaviours towards environmental protection and preservation

With its achievements and contributions, Nestlé Vietnam has been awarded the Vietnam Environment Award by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in 2019. The company was also voted the most sustainable enterprise in Vietnam in 2021 in the manufacturing sector by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
