National Tourism Year to be launched in Hue

The National Tourism Year in the northern central coastal province of Hue and Hue Festival will officially open at the Hue Royal Palace on April 7.

A wide range of cultural and sport activities will take place in six north-central provinces throughout 2012, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and Thua Thien-Hue Provincial People’s Committee announced this at a press briefing in Hue City on April 6 with the participation of more than 500 domestic and foreign reporters.

Highlights of the year will be the Hue Festival and spring festivities in January and February.

Themed “Cultural heritage with integration and development – rendezvous of historic cities”, Festival Hue 2012 is expected to attract artists from 27 countries in five continents.

This year, in its seventh edition, the festival will be organized together with the National Tourism Year and a number of art performances and communal festivities.

Ngo Hoa, Vice Chairman of the Thua Thien-Hue Provincial People’s Committee and head of the Hue Festival’s organizing board, said there will be art performances for poor patients and workers during this year’s festival.
