The conference gathered more than 700 representatives from the government, companies, and international organisations

Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the attendance of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong, and more than 700 representatives from the government, companies, and international organisations, the conference focused on boosting sustainable economic development and improving the nation’s competitive capacity.

Speaking at the event, Vu Tien Loc, chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), said that to lure better private sector resources into sustainable development, it is necessary to encourage co-operation between the private and public sectors, in other words, encourage public-private partnership (PPP), as well as issue regulations on PPP investment so that more investors will be willing to enter this model of co-operation.

Daniel Dulitzky, practice manager for health at the World Bank, said Vietnam is facing two big problems in raising the number of qualified human resources. These include improving minorities' access to education and providing new skills for labourers.

To resolve the issues, the World Bank recommends to keep improving the higher education system, create more incentives to attract private sector investment into education, and then create a tighter relationship between educational facilities and companies.

The solutions are expected to be valuable inputs for the construction of the national strategy on socio-economic development for 2021-2031, which is to be in line with the country's vision of sustainable development in the next decade.
