The Formula One Grand Prix, which has been held for 15 times since 1999, attracts hundreds of thousands of auto racing fans from around the world.

The 16th racing event, to be held at Sepang International Circuit, 50km from Kuala Lumpur, will welcome over 100,000 spectators.

It is expected to be the biggest sporting event in Southeast Asia, according to organisers.

Ahmad Zaki Mohd Salleh, Director of Tourism Malaysia in Vietnam, said the one-seater racing contest would be one of many events and festivals to celebrate Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

The country is one of the most important sport tourism destinations in the Asia – Pacific region, he said, adding that Vietnam was the 15th ranked market for Malaysia's tourism industry.

"Vietnamese tourists are always looking for new destinations as well as exciting events to attend and new experiences. We hope that promotions offered by travel agents, with support of Tourism Malaysia, will attract many Vietnamese to book F1 packages to experience F1 in Malaysia," he said.
