On May 3, at the meeting of the Steering Committee for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19 in Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairman of the city People's Committee, affirmed that the city is at a very high risk of resurgence, especially after the holiday when many people return to the city from their home towns and tourism destinations.
Ho Chi Minh City has halted many services from 6 pm today to curtail the spread of COVID-19 |
The Chairman, therefore, decided to suspend seminars and conferences that are not urgent. For those scheduled to be held this week, the scale and number of attendees must be adjusted and scaled down.
At the meeting, Phong also required leaders of units, factories, and schools to collect declarations from workers and students about which locations they have visited during the holiday.
All individuals who fail to or submit a false declaration will be fined. City police are required to closely coordinate with other related bodies to locate people who had illegally entered the country.
Previously, the Hanoi People's Committee had ordered the temporary closure of karaoke bars and bars, discotheques, and electronic game centres from April 30.
Heritage and religious sights are also closed for visitors while street restaurants and cafés were ordered to be closed from 5 pm today.
Besides Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, many other provinces such as Thua Thien-Hue, Lam Dong, Bac Lieu, Phu Yen, and Long An have also announced to stop karaoke bars, massage parlours, bars, and other entertainment venues to prevent COVID-19.
